GAU DAY of the NSDAP
(7th/11th Jun 1939)

BACKGROUND: The postcard below was issued to commemorate NSDAP GAU DAY, held from 7th to 11th Jun in the Austrian region of Steiermark (Styria). Styria is popularly known as the "Green Mark" or "Green Heart of Austria", as around 60% of its land area is forested and another 25% is made up of meadows, pastures, orchards and vineyards (hence the image of rolling hills and green countryside). The Styrian Coat of Arms (the Silver Styrian Panther in the shield) is shown on the top left, beneath an eagle with outstretched wings. This card does not have a pre-printed stamp and the reverse is blank.
