2. REICHSTAGUNG DES R.D.B
2nd REICH SESSION OF THE R.D.B
(8th/14th May 1939)

BACKGROUND: This postcard commemorates the second Reichs Day of the R.D.B (Reichsbund der Deutschen Beamten) in Frankfurt. The image is that of the "The Römerberg" the mediaeval square in the 'Altstadt', or old town, of Frankfurt am Main. The area was heavily bombed during the war but has since been restored to its old glory.

The Reichsbund der Deutschen Beamten (RDB) was the union for German state officials (Civil Servants) in the German Reich from 1933 to 1945. It was an amalgamation of several pre-existing civil service unions brought together under a single umbrella organisation, in order to control its members, and bring them under direct Nazi control.

SPECIAL CANCEL: A special handstamp was used in HAMBURG inscribed "FRANKFURT (MAIN) | 2. Reichstagung | des | R.D.B. | 8.-14. Mai 1939" (BOCHMANN Heft: Nr 7, Page: 286, Nr: S 95).

Another special handstamp was used in HAMBURG and it is inscribed "HAMBURG | Reichstagung | der NS-Gemeinschaft "Kraft durch Freude" 20.-23.7.39" (BOCHMANN Heft Nr: 10, Page: 356, Nr S 96)
