45th PHILATELISTS DAY MUNICH

(3rd/5th Jun 1939)

BACKGROUND: Issued 3rd to 5th Jun 1939 to commemorate the 45th Philatelists Day held in MUNICH and SALZBURG. There are four variations available all featuring the same basic design. Two have 3Rpf Hindenburg Medallion pre-printed stamps and the other two have 5Rpf Luftpost stamps. in addition there was an commemorative envelope featuring a pre-printed 4Rpf Hindenburg Medallion satmp.

SPECIAL CANCEL: There were two different special handstamps used to commemorate this event. The first in MUNICH and the second in SALZBURG. See here for more details.

3Rpf HINDENBURG

The first of the two 3Rpf versions is identical to the second version on the front, but is blank on the reverse side. The example below has been favour cancelled with the sonderstempel used in SALZBURG on the 5th June, the only date this handstamp was used.

The second of the two 3Rpf versions is identical to the first version on the front, but now there is an additional rubber stamp on the reverse side inscribed "München, hauptstadt der Bewegung, 3. und 4. Juni 1939".
