BACKGROUND: This postcard is inscribed "N.S.R.L FEST DER LEIBESUBUNG IM GAU XVI - BAYERN. Schweinfurt 14-16 Juli 1939" - 'N.S.R.L FESTIVAL OF LIFE PURIFICATION IN GAU XVI - BAVARIA. Schweinfurt July 14-16, 1939' and features a relay athlete.

The N.S.R.L (Nationalsozialistischer Reichsbund für Leibesübungen) or Nationalist Socialist Reich Association for Physical Exercise was an umbrella organisation for all sport in Germany during the Nazi period. The logo on the relay runner's shirt is the emblem of the N.S.R.L.
