BACKGROUND: Published on 17th Sep 1937, this postcard (PP122-C-58) commemorates the 50th Anniversary of the joining of Gössnitz with the German Philatelic Association. The image below shows the card with the official special cancel inscribed "GÖSSNITZ (KR ALTENBURG) | D.V. Göβnitz | Dtsch.Philat.-Verb | 50 Jahre Philatelie" which was used from 17th to 19th Sep and was one of only three special cancels used in Gössnitz up until the end of the war.

The image features the rising sun behind a swastika and medal. The medal is the A.E. Glasewald Medal, which was given to any person showing meritorious research into the history of German private posts. Glasewald was a book seller and stamp dealer from Gössnitz who gained a reputation as an author of several books on the history of the German private Post.
