40 JAHRE VEREIN DER BRIEFMARKENFREUNDE BITTERFELD
(5th Sep 1937)

BACKGROUND: There are at least 4 different variations of this card that was published to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Bitterfeld Postal Friends Club. All of the cards feature the same view of smoke stacks, part of the Bitterfeld chemical industry. All cards have the following text inscribed below the image:

The first two cards however have additional text "Geben wir uns nicht auf dieser Welt, fo feb'n wir uns in Bitterfeld" - 'Let's not give ourselves up to this world, for we are in Bitterfeld' text above the image. PP122-D-3 has a pre-printed 3Pf Hindenburg Medallion stamp and the other PP142-D-1 has a 5Pf Luftpost stamp.



The third card, PP142-E-2 does not have the additional text above the image but it does have a 5Pf Luftpost stamp.

Finally there is a fourth version that deos not have any pre-printed stamp.

This postcard has a 3Pf Hindenburg Medallion pre-printed stamp and additional text "Geben wir uns nicht auf dieser Welt, fo feb'n wir uns in Bitterfeld" - 'Let's not give ourselves up to this world, for we are in Bitterfeld' above the image.

This postcard has a 5Pf Luftpost pre-printed stamp and additional text "Geben wir uns nicht auf dieser Welt, fo feb'n wir uns in Bitterfeld" - 'Let's not give ourselves up to this world, for we are in Bitterfeld' above the image.

This postcard has a 5Pf Luftpost pre-printed stamp but now without the additional text above the image. ADDITIONAL RESEARCH is REQUIRED FOR THIS CARD.

This postcard has the same design as PP122-D-3 and PP142-D-1 but without a pre-printed stamp.

NO PRE-PRINTED STAMP

As with the example above this postcard does not have a pre-printed stamp. In this case a collector has added an adhesive 5Pf Hindenburg Medallion stamp in order for the post office to cancel the card with the special cancel used to commemorate the event. The special cancel is inscribed "BITTERFELD | die Ballonstadt".
