THE DAY OF THE STAMP - AUSSIG

BACKGROUND: This postcard was published to commemorate The Day of the Stamp on 14th Feb 1937 in the town of Aussig (Ústí nad Labem). At the time that this postcard was published the town of Aussig was located in the Sudeten region of Czechoslovakia but had a largely German speaking population (4:1) sympathetic to the Nazi's. In October 1938 the town was annexed by Germany along with the rest of the Sudetenland.
