BACKGROUND: This postcard was published to commemorate the German Brewing Exhibition held in Munich. The card is entitled "Dunkel gegen Hell" - 'Dark versus Light' a reference to both dark and light beers and the battle to be the most popular.
Below the two brawling men is the inscription "Das dunkle Bier | es nährt, gibt Kraft | Drum brauet dunklen Gerstensaft!" - 'The Dark Beer | it nourishes, gives strength | Therefore brew dark barley juice!'
The example below was posted in Austria and has a 15 Groschen stamp, as well as an additional 5 Groschen postage due stamp, due to the improper postage paid by the sender. The card was cancelled in the Austrian town of FELDKIRCH on 28th Mar 1927.
