BLANK POSTCARD

BACKGROUND: PP97-B-6 is a blank postcard featuring a 3Rpf pre-printed Johann Wolfgang von Goethe stamp. The inscription on the lower left-hand side reads "Drucksache" followed by four lines inscribed "Absender: | Fritz Paeplow | Berlin-Steglits | Bismarckstr. 5".



Fritz Paeplow was a stamp dealer in Berlin and these cards were sent to registered collectors around Germany so that they would have a ready source for the many special cancellations that were available throughout the country. It would have been extremely difficult and expensive for a collector to travel the country collecting the special cancels, so Fritz Peaplow offered a service whereby he would have ready-printed cards cancelled with any new cancellations, and then have the cards sent to the respective collectors.

There are a total of 27 different variations of this card (PP97-B-6) depending on the collector and destination of the card.
