BACKGROUND: This postcard measures 148 x 105mm. Postcard P170 features a dark green 5Rpf stamp featuring Friedrick Schiller. The card has four lines of text and two dotted lines in the sender's section, as well as two lines of text in the destination section. The vertical divider consists of one thick line and two thinner lines.
There are two variations on this card:
P170-I: has 4 straight edges
P170-II: has at least one serrated edge.
In addition there were at least 90 private printings printings of P170.

DOMESTIC USAGE
1. This postally used P170 postcard was cancelled in WURZBURG on 4th Feb 1926 and destined for GARMISCH. In addition to the regular CDS cancel there is a slogan cancel inscribed "Nimm | Dir einen | Fernsprech- | Anschluss | Er spart | Zeit und Geld" - 'You use the telephone, save time and money'


2. The following postally used P170 postcard was sent from ILMENAU on 31st Dec 1937 and has been uprated with an additional 3Rpf self-adhesive stamp.



3. Cancelled in FREIBERG on 3rd Jan 1928 this postally used postcard has also been uprated with a self adhesive 3RPf stamp.


4. This postally used card was cancelled in FRANKENSTEIN (SACHS) on 15th Jul 1927 and was delivered to FREIBURG.



5. The following postally used card was cancelled in BERLIN NW on 2nd Sep 1927 and was delivered to LICHTENSTEIN. This example also features a slogan cancellation commemorating the Frankfurt Autumn Fair from 18th to 21st Sep 1927.



6. The following postally used card was cancelled in CHEMNITZ on 31st Jul 1927 and was also delivered to LICHTENSTEIN. This example features a slogan cancellation recommending people to use Airmail.



7. Two domestically used P170-I postcards below destined for LICHTENSTEIN, the left-hand card sent from MUNICH on 18th Nov 1927 and the right-hand card on 14th Mar 1928. Both examples features a slogan cancellation promoting the 1928 Munich Life and Technology Exhibition, held from May to Oct 1928. The two slogans differ in the counter used, the left-hand card counter '1' and the right-hand card counter '13'






8. Domestically used P170-I postcard destined for LICHTENSTEIN and sent from COTTBUS on 25th May 1927. This example features a slogan cancellation inscribed "Vergiβ nicht Straβe | und Hausnummer | anzugeben" - 'Always remember to use the street and house number on your mail'.



9. Sent from BERLIN W to LICHTENSTEIN on 23rd Apr 1928 the following example features a slogan cancellation inscribed "Nimm dir einen | Fernsprechanaschluβ! | Er spart | Zeit und Geld" - 'Get a telephone! It saves time and money'.



10. Sent from MUNICH to LICHTENSTEIN on 5th Dec 1927 the following example features a slogan cancellation inscribed "DAS DÜRER JAHR | NÜRNBERG | 1928" which was used to commemorate the life and works of Albrecht Dürer, a well-known German painter and theorist of the German Renaissance.



11. Sent from SCHWENNINGEN to LICHTENSTEIN on 2nd Mar 1928 the following example features a slogan cancellation inscribed "SCHWENNINGEN | am Neckar | die weltberühmte | Uhrenindutriestadt " which was used to promote the town of SCHWENNINGEN on the Neckar, the world famous Watch making city.



12. The 800th Anniversary of the city of KASSELL is commemorated by the slogan cancellation on the following example. The card was cancelled in KASSELL-BETTENHAUSEN on 6th Jul 1927 with the anniversary being commemorated the following month on 6th, 7th and 8th Aug 1927.



13. The following example was posted in HEILBRONN on 29.10.1927 and features a nice example of a machine cancellation used to advertise the upcoming "SÜDDEUTSCHE FUNK AUSSTELLUNG" - 'SOUTHERN GERMANY RADIO EXHIBITION' to be held in HEILBRONN from 5th to 13th Nov 1927.




10 Rpf to the C.S.R
1. Cancelled in MUNICH on 29th Jul 1927 the next card was sent to EGER in the C.S.R. This example also has a special slogan advertising the MUNICH Craft Fair held in that city in 1927.

1. Sent from BERLIN-CHARLOTTENBURG to VIENNA on 28th Mar 1927, this postally used card also has a slogan cancel inscribed "FRANKFURTER | FRUHJAHRS-MESSE | 27.-30.MARZ" - 'FRANKFURTER | SPRING FAIR | MARCH 27-30'.
