PP81-C-3/01 - SANGERSSPRUCH
(GREEN TEXT WITH IMAGE)

The four lines of prose on the reverse of the card were written by Johannes Redlin (Treasurer of the German Singers' Association):

"Du deutsches Lied, uns nimmer fehle,
Reich Strömt aus dir des Volkes Seele;
Sei uns ein steter freudenquell,
Ein Trost im Leid, gut Weggesell'!"

You German song, never fail us,
The soul of the people flows out of you;
Be a constant source of joy for us,
A consolation in sorrow, good companion!

PP81-C-3/02 - SÄNGERMAHNUNG
(GREEN WITH IMAGE)

The prose on this cards reads as follows:

Ein Atlas trug einst kuhn die Welt,
Im Druck wuchs ihm die Starke.
Ab heut kein Stern das Dunkel hellt:
Die Kraft, sie sei am Werke!
Das deutsche Lied sei Kräftequell,
Lasst nimmer es versiegen,
Dann werden teufel selbst und holl'
Uns niemals unterkriegen.

An Atlas once boldly carried the world,
Under pressure, his strength grew.
As of today, no star will brighten the darkness:
The power, it is at work!
The German song is a source of strength,
Don't ever let it run dry,
Then even the devil will
Never get us down

PP81-C-3/03 - SÄNGERWUNSCH
(GREEN WITHOUT PICTURE)

Hoch den Kopf und frisch das herz,
Niederringen Gram und Schmerz,
Niemals sein der Leute Spott,
Froh ein Lied -
das geb' uns Gott!

Cheer up and keep your heart fresh,
Destroy grief and pain,
Never be people's ridicule,
Glad a song -
God grant us that!

PP81-C-3/05 - DEUTSCHER SCHWUR
(BROWN WITH IMAGE OF HANNOVER TOWN HALL)

The text on this card translates as:

We want to shake hands
Come on, German brother, strike;
It shall be a sign of the new covenant
Be the old German faithful!
We have remained true to ourselves
We were faithful in battle and need;
loyalty is written in our hearts,
The faithful in life and in death.

So let us act faithfully,
the way to the light points through the night;
We remain forever true to the old ones,
Forever faithful to the German spirit.
From us mock the enemies around,
From Germany like the world a mockery:
Raise your hand, let it sound loud
The faithful oath and "God with us!"
