FRANKFURT AIRCRAFT EXHIBITION
(Jul 1909)

BACKGROUND: There were two "OFFIZIELLE POSTKARTE" postcards issued to commemorate the 1909 Frankfurt Aircraft Exhibition (ILA). These cards were available with a pre-printed 5Pf Germania stamp or alternatively without a pre-printed stamp. In additon to these stamps there were other cards issued without the pre-printed stamps but still with the "OFFIZIELLE POSTKARTE" inscription.

The first of these two cards has an image of a man with a megaphone sailing over the city of FRANKFURT A.M. The example below has the pre-printed 5Pf Germania stamp.

The second of these two cards has an image of a man and a woman in a hot air balloon with eagles flying beside them. The example below does not have the pre-printed stamp.
