5 Pf - DEUTSCHES REICH

Issued 1902 and measuring 140 x 90mm. Germania "DEUTSCHES REICH" stamp, long address form (121mm) with widely spaced lines. "An " further left than "Postkarte". "In" directly below "Postkarte" on the left-hand side.

There are two variations of this card:
P58 (X) : with a watermark 2 (only letters and Arabic numerals)
P58 (Y) : without a watermark.

In addition to the regular official card described above there were several versions with private printing.

DOMESTIC USAGE

1. This first example of a P58 (X) was cancelled on the train to DRESDEN on 2nd Dec 1902.

2. Cancelled in DARMSTADT on 28th Aug 1902. this P58 (X) card was destined for an address in FRIEDBERG, where it was delivered later that day.

OVERSEAS USAGE

1. This first overseas example of a P58 (Y) postcard was cancelled in STRELITZ (?) on 3rd Sep 1902. The destination was AMSTERDAM in HOLLAND where it was delivered the following day.
