OFFICIAL POSTCARD
5 Pf - DEUTSCHES REICH

Issued 1902 and measuring 140 x 90mm. Germania "DEUTSCHES REICH" stamp, long address form (121mm) with widely spaced lines. "An " further left than "Postkarte". "In" directly below "Postkarte" on the left-hand side.

There are two variations of this card:
P58 (X) : with a watermark 2 (only letters and Arabic numerals)
P58 (Y) : without a watermark.

In addition to the regular official card described above there were several versions with private printing.

1. This private P58 (X) was from Braunsweig. This example was posted in BRAUNSWEIG on 5th Apr 1902 and arrived in HAMBURG some time later. The handstamp in HAMBURG doesn't appear to have been set correctly as it shows 4th Apr which would have been the day before it was actually posted.
