U3 - OFFICIAL UMSCHLÄGE
1 GROSCHEN

Sep 1872 with LARGE SHIELD. Not for use in Bavaria or Wurttemburg. There are two sizes: Type 'A' measures 147 x 84mm and Type 'B' measures 148 x 115mm. Denomination 1 Groschen. The pre-printed stamp is the same as Michel 19 from 1872 issue of "Groβer Brustschild" series.

There are two variations, each with two sub-variants:

U3-IA : where the right-hand denomination '1' on the value stamp measures 3.3 to 3.5mm high and the envelope measures 147 x 84mm.
U3-IB : and Type 'II' where the denomination '1' measures 3.7 to 4mm high and the envelope measures 147 x 115mm..
U3-IIA : where the right-hand denomination '1' on the value stamp measures 3.3 to 3.5mm high and the envelope measures 148 x 84mm.
U3-IIB : and Type 'II' where the denomination '1' measures 3.7 to 4mm high and the envelope measures 148 x 115mm.

This envelope is the same as U1 only U3 has a large shield.
