TAG DER BRIEFMARKE
THE DAY OF THE STAMP
(8th Jan 1939)

The following cover is a local cover sent from BERLIN-CHARLOTTENBURG on 8th Jan 1939. The special cancel is one of the special handstamps used to commemorate the Day of the Stamp. The two stamps are both 1939 issue Winterhilfswerk Michel 730 to 738 stamps.

As with the cover above this one also features a stamp from the 1939 Winterhilswerk set as well as the Tag der Briefmarke special handstamps used in HANNOVER.

SUDETENLAND
(Mar 1939)

There were a great number of special postmarks used during the Sudeten crisis of 1938/1939. During this period where Germany was busy integrated the region into the Reich, there were many local cancellations and examples of mixed franking, as seen on the cover below.

The special cancellation on this example commemorates Hitler's visit to the region beginning in PRAGUE on 15th Mar until he departed on 17th Mar 1939. This particular cancel was used in the town of BUDWEISS.

REICHS GARTENSCHAU
REICHS GARDEN SHOW

This cover has been cancelled with the special slogan cancel used to advertise the Reichs Garden Show in 1939. The stamp is a 1933 issue Michel 522 25Rpf Hindenburg Medallion stamp.

Another cover featuring the slogan cancellation used at the REICHS GARTENSCHAU in Sep 1939. This time the stamp is a 1939 issue Michel 701 stamp that was used to commemorate the 1939 Reichsparteitag.

LUFTSCHUTZ
AIR RAID SLOGAN
(May 1939)

The plain cover below has a 1933 issue 12Rpf Hindenburg Medallion stamp and a special slogan cancellation used to commemorate the Luftschutzbund (Air Raid Protection League) which was used in multiple cities. This example was cancelled in BERLIN SW 11.
