GET TO KNOW GERMANY
FIRST EBERT SERIES
P185 / 06
The First Ebert series of Get to Know Germany appeared in early 1928 and are refered to as P185 in the Michel series. This series comprises a total of 10 different cards. Cards of the first Ebert series are easily identified by the (1) there is no border running around the edges of the cards, (2) elongated tail on the 'e' of 'Postkarte', (3) a thick central dividing line that is dark green in the middle and light green either side and a (4) thick dark green line under the third dotted address line. This first series does depicts scenes from around Germany on the left upper pane but does not have the 'Lernt Deutschland Kennen!' title and is included here for completeness.
As well as the official cards there is a version of P185/06 with additional private printing.
The inscription below the image reads "Meiningen, | Eingangspforte für Rhön und Thüringenwald" - 'Meiningen, | Gateway to the Rhön and Thuringian Forest'

POSTALLY USED
1. The following used example was posted in the city of HAMBURG on 17th Aug 1929 and features a slogan cancellation inscribed "BESUCHT DAS SHÖNE HAMBURG EUROPAS GRÖSSTEN WELTHAVEN" - VISIT 'THE BEAUTIFUL HAMBURG, EUROPE'S LARGEST WORLD PORT'![image](../../../../postcards/mypostcards/official/P185/06/P185-06-f-2s.jpg)

2. The next example was a domestic airmail usage from KÖLN to BERLIN on 12th Aug 1929. The card was correctly franked, 8 Rpf for the regular delivery, and an additional 10 Rpf for the airmail fee. The sender has added the text "nur mit flugpost Köln - Berlin." - 'Only by airmail, Cologne - Berlin'
NOTES:
(a) A circular departure stamp was applied in KÖLN and was one of two used in that city. The Michel Catalogue [3] Page 512 lists this rubber stamp as either 25/01 or 25/02. Unfortunately this example isn't very clear so it could be eihter one, the only difference between them is the addition of a counter 'a' on the second version.
(b) The BERLIN Flughafenstempel on this example is one of 8 listed in the Michel Catalogue [3] Page 491 as being used in BERLIN. This one is listed as A4-07a used from 1927 and is inscribed "BERLIN | a | ZENTRALFLUGHAFEN"
(c) The red rectangular "Luftpostbestatigungsstempel" (Airmail confirmation stamp) is inscribed "Mit Luftpost befördert | Zweigluftpostamt | Berlin Zentralflughafen", 'Transported by airmail | Branch Air Post Office | Berlin central airport'. The Michel Catalogue [3] Page 517 lists this rubber stamp as F9-07 and states that the stamp was available in either red or violet ink, with red being the most common version. This rubber stamp is not an arrival stamp per se, but a stamp that was applied upon reaching the destination confirming that the item was actually carried by airmail.
(d) Finally there is a second BERLIN handstamp below the first one, which is a regular BERLIN CDS with counter '2' and dated 12.8.29. 16-17.
