OFFICIAL POSTCARD
5 PFENNIG
Issued 1882. Features an 1880 Michel 40 stamp. Inscribed along the top and centre 'DEUTSCHE REICHSPOST | POSTKARTE'. Domestic postcards with a print date on the bottom right, Address form with 4 simple lines of dots, with a gap in the 4th line of dots.
Whilst printing P12/01 only one plate was used whereas for P12/02 there were also two different plates used. Plate 'A' where the text measures 54.5mm and 41.0mm and Plate 'B' where the text measures 53.0mm and 39.5mm as below. P12/01 only exists as Plate 'A'

There are three variants of P12 and the differences are in the representation of the print date and the printing plate used as follows:
P12/01-A: Month and Year separated by a gap such as '1 82' or '3 84'
P12/02-A: Month and Year not separated by a gap such as '384' or '287' and plate 'A'
P12/02-B: Month and Year not separated by a gap such as '384' or '287' and plate 'B'
In addition there are three plate flaws associated with P12 as follows:
P12 II/01: Without control gaps in the dotted address lines (print error)
P12 II/02: Without control gaps in the dotted address lines (print error)
P12 PF III: damage to the lower portion of the crown in the value stamp.
P12 PF VI: damage to the left ribbon adjacent to the '5' on the value stamp.

WITH PRIVATE ADDITIONAL PRINTS
1. The following P12/01-A postcard was prviately printed by "Wenz & Co., Leipzig,". The reverse side has a table which was used to order items from the company. This particular example was posted in Leipzig and arrived at its destination on 13th Apr 1883. The card has a "1 83" print control code.

5. The following P12/02-B with a '686' printer's code was franked in FRANKFURT (MAIN) on 2nd Sep 1886 and was sent to JERUSALEM in ISRAEL. To cover the 10Rpf overseas postage fee a self-adhesive 5Rpf stamp has been added.



6. The next P12/02-B was sent from PEINE to HANNOVER on 27th Apr 1886. The card has a printer's code of '286'



7. The P12/02-B below has a printer's date of '785' and was sent by a company named ERNST WENZEL from COPENICK on 15th Oct 1886.



8. With a printer's code of '586' the next P12/02-B was sent from BERLIN S.W. 8 on 28th Jun 1886 to HEMER.



9. Another card sent to HEMER, this time from SIMMERN on 22nd May 1886. This card has a '286' printer's code.



10. HEMER is again the destination for this P12/02-B card with printer's code '1285'. It was sent from DARMSTADT on 3rd Sep 1887.



11. PALLANIA, ITALY was the destination for this P12/02-B card with printer's code '586'. It was sent from HERRNHUT on 30th Oct 1886 and has an additional 5 Pf self-adhesive stamp to fulfill the 10 Pf postage that was required.
