OFFICIAL POSTCARD
5 'PFENNIGE'

Issued 1st Jan 1875 for domestic use. Measuring 140 x 90mm this official postcard features a violet 'number in ellipse with crown' value stamp of 5Pf (the same as the adhesive Michel 32), and is inscribed "PFENNIGE" (with an 'E').

This card exists in three variations.

P5-I/01: has a gap in the 3rd dotted address line
Known varieties: Dot gaps left 2, 3, 24, 2+3, right 8, 10, 7+8, 5+10.

P5-I/02: has a gap in the 4th dotted address line
Known varieties: Dot gaps most commonly found at: left 3, right 3, left 3 + right 3;
Other Varieties: left 2, 4, 6, 7, 2+3, 3+4, 3+5, 4+5, 5+6, 6+7, 2+3+4, 3+4+5, 4+5+6, right 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 11, 2+3, 3+4, 4+5, 5+6, 6+7, 7+8, 2+3+4, 4+5+6, 113+3, 1 3+ r 5, l 3+r 24+7, 17+r 3+4.
There are still many irregular gaps that are meaningless such as: left 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 50, 5+ 10, right 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 45, 15+17.

P5-II: is without a gap in either the 3rd or 4th dotted address line.

As well as the regular official card there were also privately printed postcards.

P5-I/01
GAP IN 3rd DOTTED ADDRESS LINE

This version of the P5 card was issued at the end of 1875 and has a print control gap in the 3rd dotted address line. This version is less common than the P5-I/02 and P5-II versions.

P5-I/02
GAP IN 4th DOTTED ADDRESS LINE

This version of the P5 card was the last of the three versions issued (1876) and has a print control gap in the 4th dotted address line. This version of the card is much more common than the /01 version.

P5-II
NO GAPS IN DOTTED ADDRESS LINES

This version was the first type, appearing on Jan 1st 1875 and is quite common.

The following cards were all regular official cards overprinted by businesses and companies, usually for customers to use to place orders. In addition clubs and organisations often privately printed the official cards.

ADDITIONAL CARDS IN MY COLLECTION

P5-I/02 - CANCELLED CHEMNITZ 13th Aug

This first P5-I/02 was cancelled in the city of CHEMNITZ on 13th Aug (Unknown year). The gap in the 4th dotted address line is at position L10.

The next P5-I/02 was cancelled in COETHEN on 19th Nov 1879 and the gap in the 4th dotted address line is at position L15.

P5-II - CANCELLED GEESTEMUNDA on 11th May 1876

This first P5-II was cancelled in cancelled in GEESTEMUNDA on 11th May 1876.

This next P5-II has been cancelled in DRESDEN-NEUST on 13th Aug 1875 and was destined for LEIPZIG.
