P1 - OFFICIAL POSTCARD
½ GROSCHEN
BACKGROUND: Issued: 1st Jan 1873. P1 is the only postcard to feature a ½ Groschen eagle in large ellipse pre-printed stamp and a flower border.
The card measures 140 x 90mm and is on brown card stock.
This card should not be confused with either the P3 message (F), or P3 answer (A) side of a P3 replycard, and can easily be distinguised by the design of the border (P3 has a border consisting of breaking waves).

OFFICIAL POSTAL STATIONERY
WITH PRIVATE ADDITIONAL PRINTS
A common practise was for private companies and organisations to use the basic card and add their own private advertising or message. Below are some of the examples of this practise.
1. Herrn D. Tobias, Berlin. "Den Schatzmeister des Vereins "Frauenheim". 'The treasurer of the "Frauenheim" Association'. This card was used as a membership card for the Association and the member was required to enter his name, address etc on the reverse side of the card, then post it free of charge to the treasurer.
