HELP FOR WAR SURVIVORS
MICHEL 15
(22nd Sep 1944)
This was the first stamp in a set of 7 issued to raise funds for war survivors.
No legitimate covers are known with these stamps (except for rare lower denomination covers). There are a great number of phony cancellations in circulation and all items should be expertised.
The original stamps are inscribed "MSHQIPNIJA | NDIHMË PËR TË MJE RUARËT NGA LUFTA" - 'ALBANIA | HELP FOR WAR SURVIVORS'. The image on the stamp shows a bombed out building with a dead body and a man carrying a child survivor of the bombing.
