MICHEL 899
DAS BRAUNE BAND VON DEUTSCHLAND
10th ANNIVERSARY of The BROWN RIBBON RACE
42Rpf + 108Rpf
BACKGROUND: Another stamp designed by Richard Klein was issued on the 23rd of Jul 1944 to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the Brown Ribbon race. Printed by the Vienna State Printing Works the stamp had the highest surtax of any Third Reich semi-postal stamp.
As with the Vienna Derby this race never took place in 1944. It was initially postponed until 6th Aug but was then eventually cancelled. The stamps and the special handstamp had already been produced so the Reichspost duly processed any existing C.T.O orders from dealers and collectors and sent them on their way as if the event had actually taken place.
