BACKGROUND: Issued on 11th Mar 1944 this was the first stamp is a series of 13 stamps released to commemorate both the Day of the Armed Forces and Hero's Day 1944. The complete set was designed by Prof. O. Anton and printed photogravure by the Berlin State Printing Works. This first design features a German assault craft.
