BACKGROUND: This was the final stamp in a series of 12 stamps issued on the 21st Mar 1943 with the intention of commemorating Wehrmacht Day and Hero's Remembrance Day. The stamps are the first series with a heavy focus on military themes, and coincidentally coincide with the last major victory for the Germans in World War 2 (The re-taking of Kharkov on the eastern front).
The stamps were designed by Meerwald and engraved at the State Printing Office in Berlin (Michel 831, 834 to 836, 839 to 841) and the State Printing Office in Vienna (Michel 832, 833, 837, 838 and 842). The design features German S-22, motor torpedo boat.
