BACKGROUND: Fencing was the theme of the sixth stamp in the Olympic Games series. There were a total of 7 fencing events: Individual Men's Foil, Individual Women's Foil, Men's Team Foil, Men's Individual Sabre, Men's Team Sabre, Men's Individual Épée and Men's Team Épée.
Individual Men's Foil: Gold - Giulio Gaudini (Italy), Silver - Edouard Gerdere (France) and Bronze - Giorgio Bocchino. Germany 4th with Erwin Casmir.
Individual Women's Foil: Gold - Ilona Elek (Hungary), Silver - Helene Mayer (Germany) and Bronze - Ellen S. Preis-Muller (Austria).
Men's Team Foil: Gold - Italy, Silver - France and bronze Germany
Men's Individual Sabre: Gold - Endre Kabos (Hungary), Silver - Gustavo Marzi (Italy) and Bronze - Aladar Gerevich (Hungary). There was no German competitor.
Men's Team Sabre: Gold - Hungary, Silver - Italy and Bronze - Germany.
Men's Individual Épée: Gold - Franco Riccardi (Italy), Silver - Saveria Ragno Italy and Bronze - Giancarlo C. Cornaggia-Medici (Italy)
Men's Team Épée: Gold - Italy, Silver - Sweden and Bronze - France
