MICHEL 110
ERÖFFNUNG DER NATIONALVERSAMMLUNG, WEIMAR
OPENING OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY, WEIMAR

BACKGROUND: The German National Assembly was the parliament of the new Weimar Republic which met from 6th Feb 1919 until 21st May 1920. The creation of a National Assembly was the idea of the majority Social Democrats who proposed that the assembly be created to determine the future form of the German government following her loss at the end of the First World War.

Michel 110 was the fourth in a set of four stamps issued to commemorate the opening of the New National Assembly in Weimar. The stamp was designed by Georg Alexander Mathéy.
