10th ANNIV of MUNICH PUTSCH
(9th Nov 1933)
This rather dramatic postcard was designed by Gustav Goetschel and published by Verlag H. Hunsinger to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the failed Munich Putsch (9th Nov 1923). The SA man in the foreground is holding the 'blood flag' and carrying a wounded/dying comrade following the confrontation between the Nazi's and the Bavarian State Police on the night of 8th/9th Nov 1923. In the background is the Feldhernhalle in the Odeonsplatz where the skirmish occurred, and in the distance are the ghosts of the Nazi party members that were killed (15 in total) on that fateful night.
This example above left was cancelled in Munich and has a regular CDS cancel inscribed "MÜNCHEN 1BP | 10.11.33" and a regular 6Pf Hindenburg Medallion stamp.
The example above right is a good example of a mixed franking, having both German and Austria postage stamps applied.
VERLAG BAYERL, MUNICH
Another postcard, this time in black and white, features images of the 14 Nazi's who died on 9th Nov 1923 during the failed Munich Putsch. The card on the left is postally unused but the card on the right was cancelled on 9th Nov 1935 in Munich and has a special slogan cancel inscribed:
"Luftschutz ist nationale Pflicht Werdet Mitglied im Reichsluftschutzbund"
'Air protection is a national obligation. Become a member of the Reich Air Protection Association'.
