MILLENIUM EXHIBITION - AACHEN
PP88-C-2
(5th May/31st Jul 1925)
BACKGROUND: This postcard was published to commemorate the Millennium Exhibition held in Aachen during May and Jun 1925. The image is that of Emperor Otto I (also known as Otto the Great) riding on horseback. He was the German king and Holy Roman Emperor from 962 until 973 and is remembered for his success in uniting the German tribes into a single kingdom. The shield and eagle to the right of Otto is the Coat of Arms of Aachen.
There are two versions of this card (both with the same 5Rpf Reichsadler pre-printed stamp), the only difference being the length of the inscription "ÁACH VERLAGS u. OMUCM GES." on the bottom edge of the card. If you want to buy one of these cards on-line it is difficult to see which card is which. One way is to download the image then compare the length of the inscription on the bottom edge, to the length of the inscription "1925 Mai-Juli". The length of "1925 Mai-Juli" is approximately 32mm long. The images below help to see the difference between the cards.
(1) - PP88-C-2/01 - Inscription 29.5mm long
(2) - PP88-C-2/03 - Inscription 33.5mm long
