BACKGROUND: The second stamp in the series commemorates the 10 metre platform diving (high diving). There was also a 3 metre springboard event, both held in the Olympic swimming pool in Berlin and both with men's and women's events.

In the 10 metre event for women Dorothy Poynton-Hill and Velma Clancy Dunn Ploessel took gold and silver respectively for the US, whilst German athlete Käthe Köhler took the bronze, Anne Ehscheidt in 8th and Anne-Liese Kapp finished in 11th place. In the men's event the US again won gold and silver with Richard Kempster Degener and Marshall Wayne respectively, followed by Germany's Hermann Stork in Bronze, Johnny Weiβ in 4th and Siegfried Viebahn in 7th.

In the 3 metre springboard event there was a US whitewash in the men's event with Richard Kempster Degener, Marshall Wayne and Alan Greene winning gold, silver and bronze respectively. Germany placed 5th, 6th and 7th with Johnny Weiβ, Leo Esser and Winfried Mahraun. Japan's Tsuneo Shibahara finished in 4th place. Likewise in the women's 3 metre springboard, the US won gold, silver and bronze with Marjorie Gestring, Katherine Louise Rawls and Dorothy Poynton-Hill. Germany placed 4th, 5th and 7th.
