MICHEL 463
GERMAN AID FOR THE NEEDY
(Buildings III)
The first stamp in this two part series is a 6Rpf + 4Rpf semi-postal stamp depicting the Dresden Frauenkirche or Church of our Lady, originally constructed during the 11th Century. The church was destroyed during an intense Allied bombing raid of Dresden on 13th Feb 1945, but was eventually rebuilt between 1994 and 2005 after the reunification of Germany and the end of Communist control.
The stamp is a re-issue of the 1931 Michel 459 only now with a black '6 + 4 Rpf' overprint, where 6Rpf was the cost of postage (Intercity mail) and 4Rpf was given to the charity.
